I assume the button only goes into effect if you would have been kidnapped in the first place. But I’ll keep the button in my back pocket in case I do get kidnapped. For now, though, I won’t press it.

Yes, but what if, by not pressing the button, you still end up kidnapped with 2/3 friends and the ‘nappers DON’T let you go? Then you would have wished you pressed the button.

It would make sense to kill my friend to escape. There's no guaranteeing that we wont all die if I don't kill my friend. I can then tell the police and have the nappers arrested. Two of us live, and the nappers are arrested.
