I have lucid nightmares in real life from-time-to-time, & I don't find them scary. I actually enjoy them (although slightly awkwardly).

If its a lucid dream then you can control it. If the mind is awake in the dream, then the mind can control the dream. In which case, it will start as a nightmare, but then the mind can force it to be something else.
