Does this imply not pushing means my loved ones live or simply that I die alongside them? I'll assume it's the former and thus not push it but if it's the latter, I would push it.

Not exactly... it seems all your loved ones die anyway. Whether you die with them or not is the choice. Could you live to find new loved ones, do you function better when you"re alone, or would the sadness of losing them all kill you?
