If you change the past then the timeline that caused you to time travel may or probably will no longer exist causing you to die instantly, so the downside will probably will exist even if it isn't written. It's a gamble that may not even better.

You weren't born in a historic event anyway but you'd have to be careful nnot to cause a paradox. Like the one about the girl going back in time and killing her grandma. If you do something which prevents you from being born, time would go in an infinite loop of you existing/not existing
