If you just donated a bunch, after a while they would get more blood than if you died. Moreover, scientists could probably learn to replicate it after just a few donations.

Doesn't say you die (though it is heavily implied in the word sacrifice) and if that were the case, keeping you alive would be much better so you could continue to produce more of the cure

It says that I would be asked to. Refusal happens---I become a famous blood donor---The blood is almost unlimited, so even if they mess up, I'm not dead so my heart can keep pumping.
