Rephrase this: you get to be the rival to the main character of any game. This could be an option available to you, or not. The only thing you lose is an opportunity to not have an opportunity.

They said Rival, not villain. You wouldn't be the bad guy that the hero tries to stop, but rather the anti hero equal that hinders the hero for his own means. You wouldn't be Eggman, you would be Shadow.
