Rephrase this: you get to be the rival to the main character of any game. This could be an option available to you, or not. The only thing you lose is an opportunity to not have an opportunity.

What if it is an mmo? Not all rivals fight each other they can just compete, and mmos don't have distinct ends, they either continue or they get shutdown, but the story and rivalries never end.
