so pretty much, you get to a point where your feet dont touch the floor anymore and then you can go up and down... since you cant swim

Swimming forwards is swimming the way you are looking. Swimming backwards is swimming the was your feet are. So swimming up and down is either forwards or backwards. So you can't swim.
