If you told your friend that you could read minds the two of you would be able to communicate without anyone else knowing (even though it'd be one-sided). That's kinda cool. Also you can just read their minds for a short time, then stop, and then start again and do that as many times as you like

It depends on the definition of "too long" - I would deduce up to 5 minutes. Also, telepathy is not always advantageous since they could be thinking about something they don't want you to know, or would absolutely hate. Therefore, I will not press the button.
