Many of the people with whom I am good friends think similarly to me and would therefore approve of my actions. My guess is, this is true for lots of other people, and so it would be impossible for the effects of this button to happen in tandem

I would get some luxury, sure... but I do care about the world. And I'm smart enough to realize I would be a terrible leader. Better than the average person? Most definitely, yes. But not good enough to run anything bigger than a village.
