Considering my mind would be a reflection of their mind since i'm focusing on reading their mind instead of focusing on my own, I have a hard time seeing a downside.

That depends on how deep you can read. Your logic would be correct if we only were talking about the conscious mind. But if you can read someone's unconscious mind (and vice versa) things get a little more interesting, as each person would know the other better than they know themselves.
