End the misery of those in the bottom. Drive the prices of food down. Save everyone that was malnourished but not quite starving. The definition of starving really is pretty close to "dying of hunger". Small sacrifice for upcoming generations.

It'd suck to send a lot of people to their doom, but imagine how many lives would later be saved by not having to worry about starvation for the rest of humanity's existence? This would in the short term cause lots of death, but in the long term prevent so much more.
