The current humanity already has theoretical asteroid-deflection strategies. Exponential tech makes the threat trivial. I can pick 10k ppl, sure, but rest of humanity would be able to mitigate the risk of that asteroid with no problem.

What's stopping the other people in the world from saving more people than I can? Also, when technology has become super advanced, wouldn't there also be advancements and developments in tech that should be able to stop such a huge asteroid?
