It's easy to control your dreams. You will feel when you are just about to wake up and that's a point in your dream when you are half-consious. Whatever you want to happen in that point of the dream it will happen. I control them whenever I have a chance but it doesn't last long.

Seems like more of a side effect than a downside as your amazing vivid dreams where you can make everything happen would make life seem kinda dull, plus depression is a side effect of over-sleeping
