If I must live in a zoo but could talk to animals, I could just sit around and make myself filthy rich, as well as make the zoo filthy rich. I'd build a mansion in the zoo and live there with a bunch of guard-elephants and whoever I invite over to hear jokes from moray eel comics.

This would be cool, as long as you don't get locked up in a cage with an animal that hates you anyways. But, if they loved you, you could get quite rich getting into dangerous animal pits and chilling there. Like bathtubs full of snakes, but you could talk to them all.

I don't see the downside. the zoo has shelter, food, water, bathrooms and staff buildings with electricity. and no one would mind because you are held to this and provide the service of being a animal whisperer. and you would never be lonely.. so YAY
