Yes, but that was explored in Books 5-10 of Wings of Fire. Even if the magic itself can't affect your sanity, you will still likely be corrupted by the power you wield. You're human. You'll succumb eventually.

Seems fine, as long as you only use it in an emergency. It sounds like you'd basically just get alzheimer's and it progresses whenever you use this. If you could save your life or that of someone you care about, it would be worth it.
