You should still press the button even if you don’t plan on using the ability,sine there’s no downside as long as you don’t use the superpower and you’ll still have it in case you’d want to use it one day

Pressing the button would cause an power to be given to you. You don't have to use it. You could use it to save your life in an emergency though.
