You can wish for a magic lamp that grants unlimited wishes (on December 31st at 23:59) and your first wish can be that the being that was controlling you for 1 second to be destroyed and your second wish an be that you can't be controlled by any being. :)

You are controlled right when you have access to the requested item. Though you can wish to destroy the being after the controlling session.

There is no downside. You gain the ability to, you don't have to use it. And if you use it, you can always time it till right at the end of the year. And one of your wishes can be to not be controlled in a way that you dislike.
