So, um, I have an idea. How about I live in a deserted world that has portals to every other fictional (and perhaps non-fictional) world? That way I'll go wherever I want, but technically I wouldn't live there, so I won't be an outsider. Does that work?

The negative side does not sound forever lasting. Its sounds as if you have to earn trust just like in real life. And if you pick a fictional world with a huge hero vs villain aspect doing that is easy and fun.
