would this mean that if you went back in time that you wouldn't be able to return to your present time. because if you can only travel backwards you would have to relive that era up to when you left or die of age

This button does not do what people think it does. It means you can't travel forward in time - something we all do right now. Essentially, you would become Merlin, aging backwards and percieving time backwards, too.
