What's stopping the other people in the world from saving more people than I can? Also, when technology has become super advanced, wouldn't there also be advancements and developments in tech that should be able to stop such a huge asteroid?

it says YOU can only save 10000 people. If the world progresses fast enough, you don't even need to save it, the world can just deflect or destroy the asteroid.
